So when Nika meets the hot and sexy Nathan from the same site she is excited to meet him and find out more about her potential date.

Little does she know, Nathan is in the running to become the next Alpha of his pack and so he does not see her as a potential date but as a potential mate and someone he needs to help him gain his alpha status.

Has Nika bitten off more then she can chew? Or is she willing to embrace the shifter world in more ways than one?

Read on for my thoughts on The Next Alpha.  No true spoilers, promise.

Wow.  I just turned the last page, so give me a second to gather up my thoughts because right now all I can think of is… Wow.

From the cover description you might be lured into thinking that you are about to read a lighthearted romance.  You never see this story coming from the description.  Never.

The Next Alpha is an intense, well thought out, deeply involved story of two people who come together for a first date — and nothing will ever be the same for them again.

Nathan is in the running to become the Alpha of his pack.  He is up against his cousin, a man who is more brawn than brain and really appears unable to take on the role of the Alpha.  However, his sister is the brains of this set of twins, and her ambition and cunning will go a long way to making her brother the pack leader.

Nika has no social life.  Her roommate suggest that she check out a particular dating website.  One that she doesn’t know is in the business of pairing up shifters and humans.  Actually, Nika has no idea that shifters actually exist.  When Nathan, at her request, drops her off in a park for a bit of alone time she will come face to face with the nasty side of shifters in an attack.  Fortunately Nathan had seen the two hooded figures on his way out of the park and followed them, jumping in to defend Nika.  When Nika is badly injured in the attack, Nathan calls for help to take her back to his family home – and Nika’s introduction to the shifter world has begun in earnest.

From this point onward Nika will be tossed into the shifter world and the battle for power.  Betrayal, intrigue, mixed messages… and a love for all time will be thrust at her.  She will need to decide who to trust very quickly and some of her decisions will have life changing consequences.

Nathan and Nika have a very sensuous relationship.  And their sex scenes get very hot and heavy.  There is a reason this is considered an 18+ adult novel.  But do not be fooled into thinking this story is simply about sex, it’s not.  This couple has a very healthy sexual appetite – and so much more beyond the bedroom.

I was captivated by The Next Alpha.  The story is intense, suspenseful and well thought out.  I am a reader who can easily dispense with my reality and fall into the author’s world as long as there is enough worldbuilding to make it real to me.  I had no trouble at all believing this story, and enjoyed every single moment of my time with Nathan, Nika and crew.

The Next Alpha is a stand alone novel.  Yet, I do wish that I would be able to return to this world again.  Well, Nathan’s sister is still single… so maybe there is hope.  If you enjoy a complex story, an erotic love and enough suspense and action to make a movie… then you will enjoy this story.

Available in paperback and for the Kindle

I agree and I’ve been keeping my eyes out for the continuation of this group of interesting Shifters. When I find anything I’ll definitely be reviewing it.
