Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town where Halloween is celebrated 365 days a year. The tourists think it’s all a show: the vampires, the werewolves, the witches, the occasional gargoyle flying through the sky. But the supernaturals populating the town know better. Living in Nocturne Falls means being yourself. Fangs and all.
Willa Iscove, fae jeweler, has her first stalker. Really, he’s just one of her lovesick customers. The ring she crafted to help him find new love has backfired, making Willa the object of his affections. In a bid to rid herself of her amorous client, Willa makes a wish in the Nocturne Falls fountain using the piece of opal in her pocket and in doing so, unknowingly conscripts as her guardian the sexy gargoyle on duty.
Former Army Ranger and gargoyle Nick Hardwin has some serious suspicions about the pretty fae who just invoked the ancient pact for protection. Her kind have been at odds with his kind for ages. Now she wants his help? He’s determined to figure out what she’s up to. Which won’t be a hardship considering how much fun she is to be around. And kiss.
But then her stalker turns out to be the tip of the iceberg and things go really wrong, really fast. When Nick and Willa are both kidnapped, Willa is forced to make a hard decision. The life of her family or the freedom of the man she’s fallen for?

My Rating: 4 stars
Like most readers who have ventured into Nocturne Falls, I would absolutely move there in a heartbeat. Okay, so I have no magical talents but what an intriguing location for those that do.
We’ve briefly met Willa and Nick before in the previous books, but pairing them together is such a… “it feels so right” kind of reaction from me. Nick is a soul that my heart broke for in many ways. He’s a gargoyle, turns into stone, is a massive protector but still worries about scaring little kids and has gotten himself a huge home that he’d love to fill with a family, a wife and children of his own one day. Part of him holds onto that dream, the other half has learned to not hope too much for what he most likely will never have. There’s conflict in his personality, an upbeat person with edges of sadness. He captured my heart, it’s that simple.
Willa holds many secrets close to her heart. There is a mystery there, one that will be revealed in time. As she encounters Nick in the courtyard near the fountain she’s making a wish, perhaps a silly one but unknown to her she has actually brought down magic and bound Nick to her. A slow burn courtship will begin as Nick sets out to uncover Willa’s true intentions – if he falls in love with her along the way, well she’s what he’s always wanted.
The first half-ish of The Gargoyle Gets His Girl is the sweet romance of Willa and Nick falling in love and revealing themselves to each other. The last portion of the story deals with the secret that Willa has been hiding and the action becomes fast, full of lore and villains and family matters that will grab your attention quickly. It’s here that the true personalities of Willa and Nick come to the forefront – and I simply adored them even more by the ending of their romance.
If you haven’t yet discovered Kristen Painter’s Nocturne Falls series, I would highly recommend it. It’s been said that you could read them as stand alone stories, and I suppose that’s true. Yet, I found the introduction of characters from earlier stories has a thread woven through the ones to come. Perhaps not a strong need to read in order, but I believe you’ll get a better feel for all the citizens of Nocturne Falls if you start from the beginning. And even though I came to this series late, I’ve discovered that the most recent addition to the series was published in February of 2017 – so in some ways it’s an ongoing series that continues to add to the lore over time. If you love Paranormal Romance, then this should be on your to read list. Seriously.
I purchased this title.
