Wolf shifter Connor Maxim is a law-abiding citizen. His motto: Keep the peace. Protect the Pack. His firm, Maxim Securities, had been created for this purpose. His honor will be tested when he’s called to deliver on his vows.
The homicide rate escalates to an all-time high on Pack territory, and all evidence points to two prevalent wolf Packs: the Caedmon and the Arnou. The Feds give the leaders of both Packs an ultimatum, and a three-day deadline. They must find the source of the murders before the Feds intervene.
When a police raid goes awry, Connor’s world collides with that of Antonia Trudeau’s. Under the guise of a striking spitfire of a woman—who happens to be his mate—is a criminal with a healthy rap sheet. He must decide if love is worth more than duty and honor.
Antonia circumvents more than just the laws…she captures Connor’s heart.
Read on for my thoughts on the sixth novel in the Caedmon Wolves series. No true spoilers, promise
I originally reviewed Wolf’s Honor ~ Caedmon Wolves #6 on my main book review blog, Keeper Bookshelf. I will often cross-post reviews from Keeper Bookshelf to one of my other more specialized book review blogs. Yet, this particular review you are about to read has a slightly different slant from the KB’s review. That one was more general, this one focuses more on the Paranormal. This post on Haunted Bookshelf will be posted after the release date of March 30, 2015.
Haunted Bookshelf Thoughts
This review focuses more on the Paranormal aspects of Wolf’s Honor… and there are some delicious ones.
I love Connor. His mother was a shifter, so he isn’t full-blood ~ like that matters to sexiness. He runs Maxim Securities which keeps the peace, cleans up Pack messes and handles security for other ventures as well. He is focused and neutral. Just because he is a shifter himself doesn’t mean that he takes sides between the Packs. He can’t… he must remain neutral or his business would be useless to either of the Alpha Leaders or their Packs. Yet his loyalty to the Packs is never, ever in question. He will always do what is best for the shifter community. Always, even at great cost to himself.
Antonia is not a shifter. She and her brother, Andrew are all the family they have. Orphaned and left for the state to care for, she knows the system inside out. And even though she is studying to become a paralegal – she also has been on the other side of the law. You do what you have to do to survive. She’s never set out to harm anyone but she’s no angel either. Andrew enjoys the money coming in from doing jobs or drops for a local organization – and once again Antonia will back up her brother, even though she once again swears this is the last time. When the drop they are supposed to do goes bad with bullets flying and herself being dragged off by a bad guy, she never expects to find her own, personal hero to come to her rescue.
Connor’s wolf scents her as soon as she steps into the neutral bar. Not thinking much beyond what a beautiful woman she is, his eyes follow her movements through the bar – until a bullet whizzes by his ear. Then he goes into protection mode, as the operation his firm is on in this bar quickly falls apart. Seeing Antonia being dragged down a hallway, Conner quickly dispenses the bad guy. Grabbing onto Antonia he runs, with her in tow, from the chaos of the bar, and the fighting inside.
He is beginning to understand his wolf’s reaction to this woman and he realizes that he is in the presence of his mate. Connor knew it would happen one day, finally his mate would come into his life – he just never expected to find her amid flying bullets and hotwiring a car to get them the hell away from that bar scene.
Antonia still has the backpack that she never dropped back at the bar. While on a quick stop for fuel, both for the car and for them, they are attacked by bad guys with really, really bad dogs. During the fight, Connor shifts into his wolf in front of Antonia and proceeds to defend her and fight for his life against the dogs. He defeats them but is wounded. Antonia’s touch on his wounds speeds up his naturally fast healing abilities. And this is simply further proof to Connor that he has found his mate.
She saw him shift. She saw his wolf viciously fight off the dogs to protect her. And she didn’t run. She was nervous around him, but she didn’t run. What she did have was questions – that he answered honestly. Further proof, if Conner even needed more at this point, that his wolf was right and this woman was destined to be his mate, for life.
Now, that’s all of the story that I’m willing to share here – because you need to read this amazing story yourself. So, that’s the end of the tease. If that isn’t enough for you to want to know the rest of the story – then I don’t know what would be. It is an amazing read and I sincerely hope that you check this one out. It is a wolf shifter story, a love story – a very, very sexy love story and completely enjoyable. I highly recommend it.
If you haven’t read any of the earlier novels, no worries. You can easily read this one without the background. There is enough within the story to give you the basics you’d need. Plus, it’s perfect for building an interest in reading the other, earlier novels to get to know some of the shifters you will be introduced to within Wolf’s Honor.
*I received an e-ARC of Wolf’s Honor from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
Wolf’s Honor (along with the others in this series) is available at Amazon for the Kindle.
