Big Girls Don’t Bite by Nora Snowdon

After a lifetime of rebelling against her controlling mother and over-protective werewolf family in general, Anna is shocked to find herself falling for a man her mother might actually approve of. Well, if only he wasn’t a human. And the fact that he has a weird genetic problem that could kill him if she “accidentally” bites him doesn’t help matters.

Ericson knows with his shady past, he should lay low. After his brother was murdered, he’d vowed not to put anyone else he loved in danger. Despite his best intentions, Anna Colbert somehow gets under his skin. Apparently with a woman like Anna, resistance is futile.

I’ve been enjoying the Dancing With Werewolves series, and part of that enjoyment has been an (up til now) secondary character.  She’s snarky, sarcastic, a bit of a rebel and simply a hoot to read about when she’s on page.  Now Anna gets to rule in Big Girls Don’t Bite.

Anna has always been a bit of a misfit within her family.  With an uptight, overly formal mother, a father who is slipping further into dementia and overly protective brothers it’s been hard to find her place – so she rebels in what ways she can.  She is highly intelligent and can hack into a computer with ease and rarely, if ever, gets caught.  She’s a Goth princess on the outside and a woman discovering exactly who she really is on the inside.  I really like her as a character and would have wanted her for a best friend in real life.

Anna’s life is about to take an interesting turn when she meets Ericson at the newly reopened bar she and her friends frequent.  Ericson is the bartender, and unknown to Anna, the owner of the bar.  When he cards her and she cannot produce her license – well, let’s just say they get off to a rocky start.  But Anna’s curiosity gets the better of her when she returns to the bar, arguably to show that jerk bartender that she’s legal – and discovers a charming, interesting man behind the stern ID grabber.

Ericson is a bit of a mystery and Anna is bound and determined to discover everything she can about him.  Which will lead to all sorts of trouble – and a man who is equal to her in all ways and isn’t a bit intimidated by her status, wealth or sarcasm.  I adored Ericson, he’s a dark, troubled man on a mission that’s close to impossible until he finds himself falling for Anna.  He knows he should stay away but she’s a draw that he cannot ignore, even if he should.

There is more mystery to Big Girls Don’t Bite, and it’s a fascinating challenge to figure out the clues and exactly who the bad guys really are.  I’ll leave that up to you and not spoil the adventure.

I was captivated by this one, interesting characters, a puzzle to unravel and a bit more understanding of the dynamics of Anna’s family.  I enjoyed my time in this world very much and am awaiting the next story in the series.
