Sometimes even a fairy godmother needs to call for backup.
When Fairy Godmother Lilly Bloom gets her latest assignment, the rules send her into a minor panic attack. She must bring two people together—using as little magic as possible.
Photographer Bruce Matthews has finally found someone who really, really gets him. He and Greta like the same things, laugh at the same jokes. There’s just one thing—he’s never actually seen her face to face. Her social media profile bears no picture.
Much as Greta Vandecall yearns to leave her small town and meet her online prince charming, secrets chain her to the past and force her to hide her face from the world. Secrets she knows would destroy the friendship she values most.
A steampunk convention seems to be the perfect way to meet face to mask. And in the excitement of the moment they connect in a very warm, real way. But cold, hard reality isn’t far behind. And if Lilly fails, this time she’ll lose her fairy godmother status. For good.

Read on for my thoughts on Before His Eyes.
It’s easy to forget or overlook as just the way things are that we are a very visual society. Yet there are those among us who hide any visual clues about themselves for a variety of reasons – most of those reasons make perfect sense to them, if not to us. For this assignment Fairy Godmother Lilly is going to have to bring Bruce and Greta together using as little magic as possible. While perhaps not impossible, it certainly is made more difficult by one young woman who is so convinced that the scars she still bears from a dog attack as a child will have grown men running from her in terror. More specifically, one grown man in particular who she’s met at an online message board. He loves steampunk… go figure, how awesome is it that she writes steampunk under a pen name. The problem becomes a major issue when Bruce wants to meet Greta face to face. She’s terrified of that happening yet she also doesn’t want to lose contact with this amazing man.
Bruce and Greta are both keeping secrets from the world. She writes popular steampunk, he creates the beautiful covers for those romance novels, her’s in particular. The fates, magic and some human intervention all combine to enable Greta and Bruce to meet at a steampunk convention. Each will have a few surprises in store for them – and Lilly will have some major trouble develop with her charges that make getting them successfully together seem rather unlikely.
There are many kinds of bravery, much of it goes unnoticed by the world. Bruce and Greta both have to step out from behind the walls they are hiding behind in order to get what their hearts desire most… each other. It’s not going to be easy, there will be complications but the reward is worth any risk or so they hope.
And a little fairy land romance was a fun addition to this romance. Even Fairy Godmothers fall in love. *grin* Love it.
I loved Before His Eyes. It’s full of charm, magic, whimsy and reality. We all hide, simply differently. Bruce and Greta make a wonderful couple that you will enjoy visiting with. Lilly and her other Fairy Godmother friends are delightful as always, and even have a few issues to deal with themselves. All around this is one of those fun, just go with it and enjoy types of stories. And i certainly did. I’m betting you would too.
