Cover Description:

Christmastime at Lake Haven Lodge is the stuff of legends. Tucked away in a crook of the Ouachita Mountains, visitors come to relax and unwind for the holidays. What they don’t know is that it’s run by a clan of virile mountain cats.

Handyman, Renner Blackfoot, is bored with his existence. Filling his bed with random females for his panther’s pleasure isn’t enough anymore. When the lodge hires an extra masseuse to help with the busy holiday season, he finds himself pulled in by her sensuality and wishing he was anything but a shifter. Because the cats have a code: No life mates. No exceptions. Break the code and you’re on your own.

Bethany Robertson has a secret: she knows the handyman and she wants to steer clear of him at all costs. Luckily, she’s changed enough since they were kids that he has no clue she’s the girl who used to comfort him when he cried at night. The girl he tormented in return. She just needs to get through the holidays without Renner recognizing her and then she’ll be on her way. When her secret is revealed after a chance encounter, she wonders if maybe their history wasn’t what she thought it was. And if maybe they have a future.

***Contains adult language and explicit sex scenes. Intended for mature audiences only.

Read on for my thoughts on A Mate’s Wish.  No true spoilers, promise.

A Mate’s Wish puts a slightly different slant on cat shifters – for me at least.  In author P. Jameson’s shifter world the cat shifters are considered unable to remain faithful to one mate.  It’s always been that way throughout their history and the remaining cat shifters of this clan don’t really see any different future for them.  So that means that none of them could ever mate.  What happens to their population if there are no true families in their clan only shifters to actually tom cat around.

Renner wants a mate.  A true life mate, one woman to spend his life with, to plan a future with and to remain true to throughout their lives.  He is unusually attracted to the masseuse who is helping out at the lodge.  For some reason she seems to call to him.  And he wants the chance to discover what she could be to him.  But, if they are indeed lifemates like he suspects then they would have to leave his clan – for the absolute rule is no mates.

Bethany will go to great lengths to stay out of Renner’s way.  She recognizes him, even if he doesn’t remember her.  Which kinda hurts.  When circumstances change around her Bethany begins to hold out hope for a future with Renner.  But he’s still hiding secrets and until he can share everything with her they have no future.

I enjoyed A Mate’s Wish very much.  Renner will try to get his alpha to understand the need to change the clan rule and allow them to join together with another in a true lifemate relationship.  The past is not going to always repeat itself, they can change their ways if they truly want to.  Bethany has no idea what Renner is, and her introduction to cat shifters is touching under the circumstances.  Renner and Bethany have chemistry, spark and the feel that these two do belong together.

This story takes place around the Christmas holiday timeframe.  And we get to meet other secondary characters who will soon have their own stories in this series.  Many of them are engaging and charming people who I cannot wait to learn more about.

If you enjoy shifter romances then this is a series that you’ll want to check out.
