Have you ever wanted to date a vampire?
Human women required. Must be enthusiastic about interactions with vampires. Must be willing to undergo a stringent medical exam. Must be prepared to sign a contractual agreement which would include a non-disclosure clause. Limited positions available…

York has always wanted a female of his very own. One to love and care for. One who will love him in return. More than anything he wants a family… he longs to hear the sound of children’s laughter filling his home. It is his deepest desire.

Since most vampire females are not able to birth young, a program is started to ensure the continuation of the vampire species. The vampire elite must fight, fist and fang, for a much sought after place in the program and a chance to date human women.

There are a multitude of beautiful human females in attendance. They have been handpicked to ensure that they are irresistible to vampire males. Why is it then that York wants the one female he can’t have?

When Cassidy is selected for the trial phase of the program, she is ecstatic. This is the break she’s been waiting for. Her job is to root out any vampires with blood-lust. She’s quaking in her boots because she could end up dead. This position certainly isn’t for sissies. Thing is, it’s only three days of her life. All she needs to do is to allow a few of them to drink from her and survive long enough to get paid. Then she’s home free. Besides, she quit her job in order to be here so she so doesn’t have any other options available to her. Three days… pity one big, badass vampire is determined to get in the way of her plans.

Cassidy is about to take part in a trial program allowing vampires to drink from her to prove that they will not fall to the blood lust when they take part in the next phase of The Program, introducing them to potential human mates.  She’s desperate to get out from under the mountains of debt her jerk but deceased husband left behind as his legacy.  As well as getting away from a lecherous boss with sex on the brain.  Cassidy wants a new life, somewhere else completely to start over and the huge fee for three days of offering her neck to some vampires is, hopefully, the way to make that dream come true.

York desperately wants into the breeding program or the more politically correct Dating Program.  He longs for a mate who loves him beyond reason and children to fill their home.  He may be one of the Kings’ elite warriors, but he wants his own family to cherish.  What he never counted on was to discover that the woman who stepped into the room to begin the trials would affect his so.  He never thought to find his mate this way, but his need for her causes him to make some unusual choices with results that are unexpected.

A Mate For York is a decidedly sensuous tale full of hot, steamy sexy moments.  I enjoyed it for what it was – hot, sexy moments between Cassidy and York.  Yet I found very little vampire in this story, no lore, no actions (aside from the neck biting) that I felt gave me the paranormal side to this story.  Now, I know that this is the first in a spin-off series – and I have not read that first series.  From the actions of the two Kings in this story, I’m not so sure that I want to.  Yet, I don’t feel it’s fair to judge on one story so I’ll pick up the next and see if my curiosity is enough to continue.  I like a sexy story just as much as most readers who enjoy this type of story do – yet to be frank, I need a bit more story to keep me enthralled with the legend, the mystery of the vampire than I did in this story.  So, I’m right in the middle on A Mate For York.  I didn’t love it, I certainly didn’t hate it but I liked the characters and their story for what I found it to be… a tale full of sexy times.
